President John Dramani Mahama has donated relief items, including baby products, washing materials and antiseptics, to the Mamobi General Hospital and the 37 military hospital in Accra to support healthcare delivery and improve infection prevention measures following the June 29 floods.
The items, which were donated by private Ghanaian companies, form part of relief supplies being distributed to institutions and communities affected by the floods that displaced thousands of residents and caused significant damage to property.
Speaking to the media after presenting the items, he said, “Because there was a flood and a lot of people were displaced, almost 58,000 people, and others suffered loss of property, the Finance Minister was gracious enough to release GH¢200 million to buy relief items for the displaced people and others who suffered as a result of the flood,” he said.
The President also commended health workers at Mamobi Hospital for their dedication, expressing his encouragement by the quality of care being provided to patients and newborns at the facility.
Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, the Medical Superintendent, Dr Abdul Razak, expressed appreciation, noting that the donation would strengthen the hospital’s infection prevention and control measures.
The donation forms part of government’s broader post-flood relief interventions following the June 29 floods, which affected several communities, particularly in the Greater Accra Region, leading to displacement, loss of lives and destruction of property.
