Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem has charged the newly appointed Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Conrad Z. Dumbah, to intensify efforts to reduce financial and administrative infractions across Ghana’s public sector.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the Ministry of Finance on Friday, July 10, 2026, Nyarko Ampem said strengthening internal audit systems would be critical to improving public financial management and enhancing accountability in state institutions.

He acknowledged the challenges confronting the internal audit profession and urged the new Director-General to work diligently to minimise financial and administrative irregularities while promoting sound public financial management practices throughout the public sector.

Mr Dumbah was sworn into office during a ceremony attended by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance, Rev. Dr. Patrick Nomo, the outgoing Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, Thomas A. Thompson-Aryee, and members of the agency’s management team.

He succeeds Thompson-Aryee, who retired from active service on June 8, 2026.

In his acceptance remarks, Dumbah pledged to work closely with key stakeholders to strengthen accountability and improve governance within the public sector.

He said the agency would align its work with President John Dramani Mahama’s agenda of promoting accountable governance across public institutions, adding that collaboration would be central to achieving the agency’s mandate.

The Internal Audit Agency is responsible for coordinating, facilitating and providing quality assurance for internal audit activities across public sector institutions to promote transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources.
