NPP cannot win with divisions and open wounds – Paul Afoko

National Chairman hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, says the party cannot return to power unless it resolves its internal divisions and reconciles members who feel alienated.

Speaking during the formal announcement of his bid and the unveiling of his vision for the NPP on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Afoko said unity would be critical to restoring public confidence in the party and improving its chances in future elections.

“The NPP cannot win when it is divided. We cannot win when old wounds remain open,” he said.

According to Afoko, the party cannot succeed if loyal members continue to feel sidelined or if internal contests turn into destructive conflicts.

“We cannot win when loyal members feel excluded, humiliated, ignored, or pushed aside. We cannot win when our internal competition becomes internal destruction,” he said.

He called for a return to what he described as the party’s enduring values of respect, discipline, tolerance, service, and loyalty.

“We must bring back the abiding principles of our tradition, which are respect, discipline, tolerance, service, and loyalty to a cause bigger than any one individual,” Afoko said.

The former NPP National Chairman said his bid for the position is aimed at healing divisions within the party rather than advancing the interests of any particular faction.

“I’m not coming to lead one faction against another. I’m coming to help reconcile the party. I’m coming to build bridges across generations, across regions, across tendencies, across camps, and amongst all genuine party people who believe in our tradition,” he said.

Afoko’s comments come as the NPP prepares for its internal elections to elect new national executives who will lead the party’s reorganisation following its defeat in the 2024 general election.
