Channel One TV and Citi FM, organisers of The Literacy Challenge, have extended the deadline for entries into the 2026 edition of the competition to Thursday, July 30, 2026.
The extension replaces the initial deadline of Monday, July 20, 2026, and is intended to give more young people additional time to prepare and submit their entries for the nationwide competition.
Interested participants have until 5:00 p.m. on July 30 to submit their entries to P.O. Box GP 14123, Accra-Central, or deliver them at the Channel One TV premises in Tesano, Accra.
This year’s competition challenges young people to explore the opportunities and challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Ghana’s education system, with the ultimate winner set to receive GH¢10,000 and a laptop.
This year’s essay competition requires participants to ‘IN NOT LESS THAN 600 WORDS, WRITE A LETTER TO THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION, AS A YOUTH CONSULTANT, DISCUSSING THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) IN EDUCATION. ADVISE ON HOW GHANA CAN EFFECTIVELY INTEGRATE AI INTO BASIC SCHOOLS TO IMPROVE TEACHING AND LEARNING, WHILE ENSURING THAT STUDENTS IN RURAL AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES ARE NOT LEFT BEHIND.
The Literacy Challenge, which traditionally targeted Junior High School students, has expanded in recent years to include all young people between the ages of 11 and 15.
The competition will be held in three stages, beginning with essay submissions, followed by a written aptitude test for the top 100 contestants in Accra.
The final stage will feature the top 48 participants competing in groups of three in a quiz competition to determine the winners.
Organisers say the initiative is designed to promote literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, creativity and writing skills among young people while identifying and nurturing outstanding talents.
The top regional team will receive a GH¢15,000 cash prize, with each member taking home GH¢5,000.
