The Member of Parliament for Lawra, Bede A. Ziedeng, has donated 660 chairs and two motorcycles to the Lawra Traditional Council and the Lawra Circuit Court to support their operations.
At a presentation ceremony in Lawra, the Traditional Council received 660 chairs and one motorcycle, while the Circuit Court received a motorcycle to assist bailiffs and other court officials in carrying out their duties.
Mr Ziedeng said the donation was in fulfilment of commitments he made after the two institutions separately appealed for logistical support.
He explained that the Lawra Traditional Council made its request during a courtesy call by the Upper West Regional Minister earlier this year, where traditional leaders appealed for chairs to support council meetings and a motorcycle to assist the registrar with official assignments.
The MP added that the Lawra Circuit Court also made a similar request when Parliament’s Judiciary Committee, of which he is the Ranking Member, toured the Upper West Region to assess judicial facilities and engage staff of the Judicial Service.
According to him, the court requested a motorcycle to improve the mobility of bailiffs in serving court documents and performing other official responsibilities.
Mr Ziedeng said the presentation reflected his commitment to responding to the needs of institutions within the Lawra Municipality.
“I am not one of those politicians who make promises and fail to honour them. The things I cannot do, I do not promise. But once I make a promise, I intend to fulfil it,” he said.
He said the support was aimed at strengthening justice delivery and improving the operations of traditional authorities, which play an important role in local development.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lawra, Cecilia Soale Nuratu, commended the MP for responding to the needs of the two institutions.
She said the items would enhance the efficiency of the Traditional Council and the Circuit Court, while urging the beneficiaries to properly maintain them to ensure their long-term use.
“The Assembly is here to solve problems. We will not wait for a second appeal before responding to urgent needs. It is our responsibility, and we will continue to do so,” she said.
The MCE also assured residents that the Assembly would continue to collaborate with the MP to address development challenges in the municipality.
Traditional authorities expressed appreciation to Mr Ziedeng for the support and prayed for his continued good health as he serves the people of Lawra.
