Justice William Atuguba, a retired Supreme Court Justice, has questioned why Klottey Korle Member of Parliament, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has not been given a ministerial appointment, praising her as a leader with integrity and strong principles.
Justice Atuguba said Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings represents the kind of politician the country should aspire to have, based on her conduct and commitment to public service.
Speaking at the D.F. Annan Memorial Lecture in Parliament, he said he had followed the MP’s activities and believed her leadership qualities made her suitable for a higher national role.
“Somebody like Zanetor Rawlings, she’s not a politician; she’s a woman of the people. I’ve been following her activities. I don’t know, I’ve never spoken to her, never met her, but I’m convinced that that’s the kind of politician people should aspire to be,” he said.
The former Supreme Court Justice said he was surprised that Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings had not yet been appointed a minister in President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
“Until now, and that’s why I don’t get involved in politics, I don’t know why she’s not yet a minister. I hope by saying that, I’ve not destroyed her chances,” he stated.
Justice Atuguba also referred to reports suggesting that the Klottey Korle MP had been considered for a deputy ministerial position, adding that he believed she could take on an even bigger role.
“From social media, sometimes they even announce that she can be deputy [minister] of health. I say, oh, she could even be the substantive…why not? Why not?”
He further praised Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’ character, describing her as “a woman of principle, of dedication, of integrity” and questioning why such qualities had not earned her a ministerial appointment.
“Such a woman of principle, of dedication, of integrity, why not?” he added.
