Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu and a member of Parliament’s Finance Committee, Atta Issah, has expressed confidence that the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review will not introduce new taxes, saying the government remains committed to easing the burden on Ghanaians.
According to him, the budget review is instead expected to focus on key development priorities, including flood mitigation, infrastructure, rural electrification and the operationalisation of the Women’s Development Bank.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, July 22, ahead of the presentation of the Mid-Year Budget Review, Atta Issah said he expects the Finance Minister to provide a comprehensive update on government’s ongoing programmes rather than announce additional tax measures.
“I expect that no new taxes will be introduced. We are a government that is sensitive and listening to the plight of the people. At a time when people are struggling, you do not come and impose additional burdens on them, and Thursday will not be an exception,” he said.
He indicated that flood mitigation efforts are expected to feature prominently in the budget review, following recent flooding incidents in parts of the country.
He also expects the Finance Minister to outline the government’s expenditure plans for the Women’s Development Bank, expressing optimism that the institution will be fully operational before the end of the year.
“I think that by the end of this year, we will see the full rollout of the Women’s Development Bank across the country,” he stated.
The Sagnarigu MP further noted that Parliament should receive updates on the implementation of the $300 million education facility, including the schools and regions expected to benefit from the programme.
He added that the budget review is also expected to provide progress reports on the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme and ongoing rural electrification projects, outlining plans for their continued implementation in the second half of the year.
The Minister for Finance is expected to present the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament on Thursday, providing an update on the implementation of the 2026 Budget and government’s fiscal outlook for the remainder of the year.
