The former CEO of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Felix Anyah, was not relieved of his position for poor performance or any wrongdoing.

According to Citi News sources at the Presidency, Dr Anyah’s appointment was terminated on technical grounds.

The Public Services Commission Act stipulates in section 8 that the appointment of an officer in the public services must be done in accordance with the advice of the Public Services Commission.

In this instance, the Public Service Commission advised that Dr. Anyah was above the required age to serve as Korle Bu CEO.

The source added that the government could not engage him on a contract basis, which is usually the alternative, because he had not previously worked or retired from the public service as the constitution requires.

Dr. Anyah’s appointment as acting CEO of Korle-Bu was terminated last Wednesday without reasons by the President.

His sacking was met with protests from workers of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

According to the aggrieved Korle Bu workers, Dr. Anyah brought remarkable changes at the hospital.

They were, thus, demanding an explanation for the firing.

Dr. Anyah’s sacking follows that of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) CEO, Gifty Klenam, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) CEO, Paul Asare Ansah and the Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transport (BOST) Company, Alfred Obeng Boateng.

Sources say the president may sack more top officials of other state agencies between now and July.

Citi News sources also indicate a shake-up in the army and police hierarchy is imminent.

Dr Anyah, who is the owner of Holy Trinity Medical Centre/Holy Trinity Spa & Health Farm was appointed on June 1, 2017.
