Ahafo Kenyasi Dev’t Association laments poor Kenyasi-Hwidiem road

The Ahafo Kenyasi Development Association (AKDA) in the Asutifi North District of the Brong Ahafo Region, is urging government to quickly upgrade the deteriorating Kenyasi-Hwidiem road.

The state of the 3-kilometer Kenyasi-Hwidiem road is affecting the socio-economic activities of the area.

Trips on the road, which should take drivers about five minutes to cover, takes them close to an hour.

The road is a major link to other communities in the area, and farmers are finding it difficult carting their foodstuffs to the Kenyasi Market.

President of the Ahafo Kenyasi Development Association, Nana Akwasi Agyemang, addressing a press conference in Kenyasi, said, “We have been pushing for the construction of the Kenyasi-Hwidiem road for some time now, but nothing is happening. We are therefore calling on the government to as a matter of urgency construct this road. All the culverts have been constructed, and we cannot wait any longer.”

Nana Akwasi Agyemang reiterated that the Association would not remain silent, but would continue to push for Kenyasi to get its fair share of the national cake.

“When we organized the “Enough is Enough” campaign to register our displeasure about the state of the Kenyasi-Hwidiem road, the MP for the area Joseph Daha came out to say that something would be done about the road, but as we speak today nothing has been done on the stretch.”

He claimed that President Nana Akufo-Addo promised the people when he visited the area that government would construct the road, but close to six months nothing has been done.

Emmanuel Mensah, a driver who plies the Kenyasi-Hwidiem road in an interview with Citi News, said that using the road is a challenge for them.

“Using this road is a major headache; I always go to the mechanic shop every week at least twice.  I have to spend the little I get on maintenance. Most of the drivers are having waist pains because of the nature of the road. We are urging Nana Akuffo Addo to construct the road for us,” Mr. Mensah appealed.

At the press conference were Nana Kontor, who represented Kenyasi Number 2, and Nana Anim Danquah, who represented Kenyasi Number 1.
