Black Stars down Kotoko 3-0 in friendly

The Black Stars of Ghana beat Asante Kotoko 3-0 in a friendly match played on Friday at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The match was called for by the Black Stars technical team after it emerged that their AFCON 2019 Qualifier with Sierra Leone had been cancelled by CAF and FIFA following their suspension from international football.

They had been suspended on the grounds of government interference after Sierra Leone FA boss, Isha Johansen and general secretary, Chris Kamara, were asked to step aside for the country’s Anti-Corruption Commission to conduct investigations into allegations of corruption.

Black Stars head coach, Kwesi Appiah, used the match to assess certain players like Felix Annan, Isaac Sackey, and Bernard Mensah, who were getting starts in his second tenure.

The Black Stars took the lead in the 25th minute through Abdul Majeed Waris. The Nantes forward controlled a pass from Isaac Sackey and sent the ball home.

The score went up to two for Ghana early in the second half when Emmanuel Boateng fired home from distance and the victory was completed by Christian Atsu not too long after that.

Black Stars starting line-up:

Felix Annan; Jonathan Mensah, John Boye, Andy Yiadom and Lumor Agbenyenu; Isaac Sackey, Bernard Mensah, Afriyie Acquah, Nana Ampomah and Christian Atsu; Abdul Majeed Waris

Kotoko starting line-up:

Danlad, Amos, Abass, Wahab, Badu, Senanu, Boahene, Bonsu, Jordan, Yacouba, Obed.
