The National Folklore Board has officially launched a series to educate Ghanaians on folklores.

The campaign dubbed “Did You Know” will create awareness of Ghanaian folklore through the sharing of folklore facts.

The pr0gramme will be outdoored monthly throughout the year.

“Did You Know” series include Ghanaian music, dance, art, designs, names, signs and symbols, performances, ceremonies, architectural forms, handicrafts and narratives and many other artistic and cultural expressions.

According to Acting Director of National Folklore Board, Nana Adjoa Adobea Asante, the series which is the first of its kind will, apart from helping create jobs, will also promote and protect Ghana’s folklore from being illegally used by foreigners.

She therefore admonished Ghanaians and people from the Diaspora who are coming into the country for the Year of Return to put all hands on deck to help make the programme a success.

“In this Year of Return, set aside to commemorate 400 years since the first African slaves left the shores of West Africa and in line with Government’s promise to maximise revenue and create jobs through promotion and protection of our folklore (including the protection of Kente and Adinkra Symbols) from illicit exploitation by foreign interests, the National Folklore Board makes a clarion call on Ghanaians, both home and abroad to return to our identity, our pride –our folklore”.

The National Folklore Board is a state agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture established and empowered by the Copyright Act, 2005 (Act 690).

The National Folklore Board is mandated by law to administer, register, promote and protect Ghanaian expressions of folklore on behalf of the President and for the people of Ghana.
