The Wenchi High Court in the Bono Region has dismissed a case brought by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) seeking to contest the Sene West Constituency’s Parliamentary elections.

The party’s candidate, Joseph Markay Kuma, sought an injunction against the election results over claims of irregularities with the electoral process although collation of results had not taken place.

But in court on Thursday morning, the Presiding Judge, His Lordship Justice Frederick Nawura, struck out the NPP’s case and directed that the Electoral Commission be allowed to do its work.

But in court today, the Presiding Judge, His Lordship Justice Frederick Nawura, struck out the NPP’s case and directed that the Electoral Commission should be allowed to do its work.

The lead lawyers for the NPP were Nana Sekyere Boateng and Nana Obiri Boahen whiles NDC was represented by Kojoga Adawudu and Ofosu Agyare.

Reacting to the ruling, Mr. Obiri Boahen, expressed contentment with the ruling.

“The judge has swept it out so it is ok. He said the EC should go ahead with her work so that is it.”

One of the NDC’s lawyers, Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare, also expressed satisfaction with the Court’s ruling.

“The judge did the needful by dismissing this case, we are satisfied with that. He has also said that the EC should go on with its work but the EC has to sit down with the parties so that we discuss the way forward.”

Sene West is the one outstanding seat in the Parliamentary elections which has seen the NPP win 137 seats in Parliament whilst the NDC has 136 seats.

It is also being contested by Kwame Twumasi Ampofo of the NDC and Ceasar Fomekah of the National Democratic Party.

A parliamentary seat, in Fomena, was also won by an independent candidate.
