The team-lead of the just-ended Wiki4Climate campaign, Joy Agyepong is advocating for a continuous population of Wikipedia with Ghanaian climate literature.

A two week-edithaton dubbed the Wiki4Climate campaign enrolled over 30 participants from different backgrounds who added climate change literature of climate change activists, institutions, organizations, ideas, policies among others.

The competition span from 1st to 14th December 2020. The rationale of the project is to increase Ghanaian climate literature on Wikipedia and providing digital skills to Ghanaians.

The competition had various engagement sessions to assist participants.

The competition with assistance from other team members; Nii Amarquaye Commey
(Wikipedian Editor & Environmental Consultant), Stella and Daniel Anyorigya sought to include voices and contributions from Ghanaians to make Wikipedia more relevant in content for the SDGs.

The top five winners are OkuJet, DaSupremo, NanaYawBotar, Vuokye, and Perscobayaw.

The outcome was to recruit new editors, increase skills for translating climate-related articles into Twi and Hausa articles, and increase skills for existing editors on climate topics. Additionally, add or improve and create content on climate topics, share images to WikiCommons, and improving WikiData items on climate topics.

This is dubbed as the #14 days Wiki Climate Writing Contest. This is an edit contest where participants across Ghana will edit the different projects of Wikimedia through content, images and structured data on climate-related topics in Ghana.

This is a #WikiHour Initiative made up of a small group environmental advocates and Wikipedia editors.

The inspiration from the Climate & Development Knowledge Network, is a known fact that many of those in the climate change community especially female – practitioners, researchers, communicators, community organisers – are not making use of climate change information more freely available to the general public and robust.
