The Vodafone Healthline Series Season 9, Episode 5 took a rather interesting twist, as panellists discussed the notion that chewing gum could stay in the tummy for several years.
Although the two practitioners – Aba Folson and KwekumaYalley dispelled the notion that chewing gum could stay in the tummy for years, they indicated that there are some rare cases where children have had gums stuck in their tummy.
“Even though chewing gum contains gum material which is difficult to break down, it does not stay in the tummy for seven years. It goes through the normal processes, through the intestine and comes out in the faeces. With children, however, it can get stuck somewhere. That is only with the children and this does not happen very often,” Dr. Folson said.
The next part of the show highlighted the story of Christabel Assafuah who had swallowed a coin.
After going through a surgery, her feeding became difficult, pushing her parents to pay more for her daily meals.
Vodafone came to her aid through a cash donation after becoming familiar with her story.
The next discussion focused on Goitre and Thyroid.
A Senior Physcian Specialist, Dr. Hetty Fician emphasized the need for swellings around the neck to be taken seriously.
She said persons who have swellings around the neck have to seek medical care as soon as they can.
