The Eastern Regional Police Command is urging hoteliers in the region to demand and authenticate national Identification (ID) cards of patrons of their facilities before allotting rooms to them.

This latest advice from the Regional Police Headquarters comes after a lady by name, Believe Sackitey, was found dead in a hotel room after checking into the hotel with a man a day before.

According to the police, one Charles Tetteh who is currently on the run checked in at the Gameli Guest House in Somanya on April 6, 2021, with Believe Sackitey.

The owner of the hotel told the police he found the lady in a pool of blood with several knife wounds on her neck and chest.

The Somanya Police Crime Management team which has begun investigations into the incident has so far retrieved a knife believed to have been used by the suspect.

The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, Sergeant Francis Gomado in Citi News interview said the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Atua Government Hospital for autopsy.

Sergeant Francis Gomado further advised the management of the hotels in the region to demand national ID cards of patrons as part of data entry requirements to help the police with investigations in circumstances like this.

There have been several reports of such nature in recent times.

The Accra Regional Police Command on March 22, 2021, reported of a man who was found dead in a supine position and decomposing at the Princeway Hotel, near Caprice in Accra.

The unknown man was reported to have checked in with another man.

This happened not long after a woman in her mid-thirties was found dead at Nana Gyimah Hotel located at Kokomlemle, a suburb of Accra.

Police reports further stated that the management of the hotel had poor record keeping.

They failed to record details of their clients in the book even though they had one for that purpose.

The hotel did not also have CCTV coverage that could have helped investigations.
