The Vice-Chancellor of the Cape Coast Technical University, Professor Joshua Danso Owusu-Sekyere has stressed that government sees Technical and Vocational Education Training as a catalyst to accelerate its industrialization agenda hence, interventions such as the state-of-the-art engineering workshops and laboratories constructed in the various Technical Universities boost teaching and learning.

The Vice Chancellor who was addressing matriculants of the university maintained that “these are exciting times to be a student of a Technical University, as the future of this nation hangs on your shoulders. You are the ones we are looking up to, to transform this nation”.

He maintained that the nation has high expectations of Technical students and that “we hope you will realize this and ensure that you take advantage of all that is provided in this institution to make you an asset to the nation”.

CCTU received a total number of 2,103 applications and 1,899 qualified applicants were offered admission into various programmes.

Out of this number, 1,402 candidates comprising 601 B-Tech students, 453 Higher National Diploma (HND) and 348 Diploma students were enrolled.

The Vice Chancellor further stated that each Technical University has a niche area which becomes the central theme around which the University revolves.

“For CCTU our niche area is ‘Renewable Energy’ and the University is expected to be, as it were, a Center of Excellence in Renewable Energy in Ghana”.

Renewable energy is energy produced from sources that do not deplete or can be replenished within a human’s lifetime. The most common examples include wind, solar, geothermal, biomass and hydropower.
