The Health Committee of Parliament is set to meet the national COVID-19 Taskforce today, March 22, 2022, on liable measures to review the restrictions and protocols issued during the peak of the pandemic in 2020.

This comes on the back of calls for some restrictions to be lifted as they are long overdue, like the re-opening of the land borders and the COVID-19 restrictions at the airports.

The ranking member on the committee, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, speaking to Citi News, said the Ministry of Health and the National COVID-19  Taskforce are to appear before the committee to answer some questions to enable an informed decision to be made.

“This is the committee of Parliament and our agenda is not determined by the executive, we are playing our oversight responsibility. We have received a number of petitions from the good people of this country on reviewing some covid protocols on both land borders and the airports.”

“We want the Covid team to appear before us, so we can ask them some questions bordering Ghanaians and if possible suggest to them some reviews which are long overdue. It is a public meeting since it is an issue of high public interest. The president is reported to have agreed to consider the easing of COVID-19 restrictions; land borders among others during the cabinet meeting held over the weekend.”
