Citi FM/Citi TV’s online portal, citinewsroom.com has been named as the Tourism Oriented Media House (Online) for the year 2018 at the Eastern Regional Tourism Awards.

The website beat the likes of myjoyonline.com to be crowned the best online platform for tourism.

This award comes in days after Citi FM was crowned the Tourism Oriented Media House for Radio at the Greater Accra Regional Tourism Awards which was held last Friday.

This is the second time citinewsroom.com is winning the award after winning it at the 2017 Eastern Regional Tourism Awards for the continuous promotion of tourism in the country.

The awards ceremony which was held at the Koforidua Capital View Hotel was on the theme “Celebrating Our Heritage,” aimed at recognising the hard work of industry players in promoting tourism and the hospitality industry in the region.

In his welcome address, the Eastern Regional Manager for the Ghana Tourism Authority, Frederick Adjei-Rudolph called on civil society and industry players to partner the authority to harness full tourism potentials in the region.

“I am sure you are all aware of the series of programmes and event attractions being organized across the country since the beginning of this year as part of the Year of Return activities. Renowned international acts will be visiting the country for performances and tours. As a Region abound with rich history and culture, natural and breath taking sights, how are we positioning ourselves to direct significant traffic of tourists to the Region during this period? How are you positioning yourselves as major hospitality and service providers in the Region to rake in the desired patronage during the period?”

“I therefore wish to use this opportunity to call on all private sector tourism stakeholders gathered here and beyond to partner with the Ghana Tourism Authority in the Eastern Region to sensitize and galvanize every single promoter of tourism businesses to be very professional in service delivery and to come up with innovative and exciting programmes that will attract our own fair share of the millions of tourists expected in Ghana this year to visit the Eastern Region”.

He added, “We must not be left out of this historic pilgrimage of our brothers and sisters from the diaspora to Ghana. The Eastern Region must have its own significant share and we can only achieve this, if we prepare very well by improving on service delivery and maintaining internationally acceptable standards”.
