Members of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) , who are due for retirement say they will comply with the Ghana Education Service directive to all retired staff of the Service to vacate their posts.
GES had directed its Regional, Metropolitan and General managers of education units nationwide to ensure that staff who are due for retirement but have refused to exit, vacate their posts immediately.
According to the Service, these officers were asked to exit as far back as June 5, 2017, but they have failed to respond to the order.
[contextly_sidebar id=”PVymxLeqlSinDcvFVOjlssUEmc6SHHxn”]GES in a memo signed by its Director-General, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, called for strict compliance with the directive.
“Those officers who have submitted their applications for the correction of date of birth but are due for retirement should leave their position while waiting for the outcome of the decision of management. That all officers who have retired and are still at post should, in their interest, hand over and proceed on compulsory retirement immediately,” the statement added.
Speaking to Citi News, Secretary of CHASS, Reverend Abraham Osei Donkor, said the officers involved have been notified.
“Apart from the normal reminder letters that reminds all those who are due for retirement within the year, I think some letters came to some officers informing them of some discrepancies in their date of births. Either their records do not match that of the record with the service or something else. Those officers concerned have been informed, and they were to respond to the service by confirming with some requested documents within the period or count themselves having retired at the end of March,” he added.

RE: COMPULSORY RETIREMENT OF GHANA EDUCATION SERVICE STAFF
The attention of Management has been drawn to the fact that some officers who are supposed to have proceeded on compulsory retirement are still at post despite the earlier directives for them to do so per a letter dated the 5th of June, 2017.
Management wishes to remind all Regional/Metropolitan/District and General Managers of Education Units to ensure strict compliance with the following:
1.That officers who have submitted their applications for the correction of date of birth but are due for retirement should leave their position while waiting for the outcome of the decision of management.
2.That all officers who have retired and are still at post should in their interest hand over and proceed on compulsory retirement immediately.
All heads of the second cycle and primary schools are also expected to take note and comply accordingly.
