Professor Kwesi Botchway, Head of NDC’s election 2016 fact-finding committee has asked grassroots members of the party to be wary of aspirants who exchange money for votes.

According to him, the members of the party must prevent the rise of such leaders.

[contextly_sidebar id=”O3h7vJs23jGz1zFAw1TCaqtvEkRdtBSU”]He stated that it is in the interest of the party to regain its position as a party with integrity.

As part of uncovering what caused the NDC’s defeat in the 2016 elections, the Kwesi Botchway Committee toured the country soliciting views from party loyalists.

The party is in the process, to elect leaders from the branch level through the selection of a flagbearer.

Speaking at the June 4th revolutionary lectures, Prof Botchway indicated that the rise of what has become known as ‘moneycracy’ in the NDC has hugely contributed to the party’s loss in the 2016 elections.

“The rise of ‘moneycracy’, the quest for money, some monetary reward so to speak for belonging to the party. It is for the constituents to reject such candidates,” he said.

In 2o16, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), formed a 13-member committee to investigate the cause of the party’s historic defeat in the December 7 polls.

The committee, which was formed by the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee (NEC), and approved by its Council of Elders, was chaired by a Former Minister of Finance and Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Kwesi Botchwey.

President John Mahama was defeated by the New Patriotic Party’s Nana Akufo-Addo in the December 7 elections, in what many described as the worst performance put up by a sitting President in an election.

The 55-page report, titled, ‘listening to the grassroots’, stated that the NDC must take urgent steps to restore the integrity of the register.

At the presentation of the report, the Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Kwesi Botchwey, expressed hope that the recommendations will help capture power for the NDC in the next elections in 2020.
