Wife of late former United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, Nane Lagergren, has eulogized her husband describing him as an “extraordinary human being” who touched the world in a positive way.

According to her, Kofi Annan had a courageous heart, he was compassionate, and was able to touch the lives of many whose names the world do not even know.

“He challenged all of us to work for a better world right where we are in our homes, villages, towns and in our cities. All you needed to do is to take one small step and another,” she said.

Reading a tribute at the burial service of her late husband in Accra on Thursday, Nane Lagergren disclosed that Kofi Annan was always excited to return to Ghana after serving humanity in different parts of the world.

“I remember how excited he always was returning home, home to Ghana. On arrival he will draw in the air, feel the breeze and he will look so happy. He always believed that his inner strength and sense of home came from his deep roots here, and I want to thank Ghana for giving us an extraordinary human being,” she added.

“My love, you are now back home, we stopped after your own journey, may you rest in peace. But may your belief and compassion continue to inspire us and guide our steps wherever we are,” Lagergren added.

Kofi Annan died at age 80 on August 18, 2018 at the Swiss capital, Bern, after a short illness.

His remains was brought into Ghana last Monday.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, all former living Ghanaian presidents, ministers, Members of Parliament, politicians, clergy, the business community, heads of state from different countries, diplomatic corps, the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres among others graced the burial service.

Several tributes were read in honour of late Kofi Annan, before he was finally laid to rest at the Military cemetery at Burma Camp, Accra.
