The opposition National Democratic Congress’ (NDC), Northern Regional branch has taken a swipe at government over its failure to assuage the plight of victims of recent floods in the region.
The cumulative effects of a nonstop downpour and the Bagre Dam spillage has left hundreds of people displaced in the area.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), is unable to give the victims relief items with the complaints of inadequate stock.
The NDC Northern Regional Secretary, Sualisu Be-Awuribe, at a news conference in Tamale accused government of being insensitive to the flood victims.
He lambasted the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for failing to visit the flooded communities during his recent working visit to the Northern Region.
“The Vice President, Dr. Bawumia’s failure to comment or visit the distressed inhabitants of the region when he visited last week to launch the School Entrepreneurship Initiative was disappointing.”
“Ironically, this is the Vice President’s home region and districts he claims to be his home. Sad isn’t it? Barely two years ago, this same man and his flagbearer would have rushed to funerals of fowls and flooding in gutters with stimulated sympathy just for votes.”
“We in the NDC are disappointed over the government’s ineptitude and snail pace response to the affected persons and communities of the recent floods in the Northern Region.”
“While natural disasters cannot be stopped, it is imperative to prevent it’s impact on lives and properties,” he stressed.
He asserted that government lacked the political will to combat the perennial floods that continue to affect livelihood in the Northern Region.
“The New Patriotic Party government is adopting a poor and sloppy strategy of communications in sending early warning signals to residents of these flood prone areas over possible dangers.”
Salisu Bi-Awuribe unveiled the NDC’s intention to support the flood victims saying, “The party in its own way has organized some relief items with the support of our MPs to support the victims and we have directed all constituency executives to support the victims who lost their homes.”
Seven persons have been reported dead during the recent floods.
