The Yendi Divisional Police Command has launched a manhunt for some suspected armed robbers who attacked and robbed traders on the Yendi to Chereponi road in the Northern Region.

According to the Police, the suspected robbers blocked the highway on Saturday night before carrying out their operation.

[contextly_sidebar id=”pfeMGCWMoz7gEyiYNU6mAugXrnQGFT31″]The Divisional Crime Officer, Superintendent Happy Michael Addai told Citi News his men are on alert to ensure that the suspects are arrested.

“Market vehicles were attacked by armed robbers who blocked the road. We subsequently organised men immediately to follow up on the issue. My divisional commander also made a follow up…

“Police conducted a search and they found an empty AKA 47 shell which meant that there was a shooting incident there. My men are still on the road…The night patrol together with the day patrol team are also there. The day patrol returned, night patrol is still on the highway patrolling to see if they will come across any suspected robbers on the way.”

Police record 968 robbery cases in first quarter

The incidence of armed robbery cases in Ghana seems to have increased in 2018 as the Police Service indicated earlier that a total of nine hundred and sixty-eight (968) related robbery cases were recorded in the first quarter of 2018 across the country.

Speaking at a press briefing, ACP Gyamera said out of the 484 cases of armed robbery recorded from January to May 2018; the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions had the highest number of 191 and 123 cases respectively.

ACP Gyamera said Greater Accra and Ashanti regions recorded the highest number of 78 and 48 cases respectively, while Upper West recorded the least number of cases.

ACP Gyamera said out of the 124 cases of residential robberies, 30 were recorded in January, 22 in February, 24 in March, 25 in April and 23 in May, of which Greater Accra and Ashanti regions led with the highest number.
