One of the beneficiaries of the Citi Opportunity Project on Education (COPE), has dedicated his thesis to the Citi FM education project that helped him complete his tertiary education ahead of his graduation.
The student, Philemon Dabrah, is set to graduate from the University of Ghana after studying Medical Laboratory Science.
The 21-year-old, who won Citi FM’s Write Away contest in 2011, proceeded to Winneba Secondary School before entering the University of Ghana in 2014.
The idea of completing his tertiary education and such a strenuous course without the help of funding from COPE was unimaginable, Philemon told citinewsroom.com.
But having made it this far, he felt dedicating his thesis to the COPE project was the best way he could express his gratitude.
“It [the dissertation] was the weightiest thing we did in school. It was an eight-credit-hour course and looking at the fact that my entire university education was made possible through COPE, I just felt it was right to dedicate it to COPE.”
Philemon’s thesis was about the prevalence of Hepatitis C in kidney disease patients, and he hopes he will be put in a position to help cure such ailments as he hopes to branch into medical school after his National Service.
He also urged more people to also donate to COPE saying “I also want to encourage anybody who may have ever read or heard about COPE to try and donate to try and help someone out with an education just as I have had.”
The average amount spent on each beneficiary is GH¢5,000 which covers tuition, accommodation, stationery and a stipend.
COPE currently supports about 50 students at various tertiary institutions across Ghana.
Philemon is among 12 COPE beneficiaries who have successfully completed their tertiary education.

Donations can be sent to the MTN mobile money number 0550 900 006. Cheques can also be written in the name: CITI FM FOUNDATION
Alternatively, donations can be made at the front desk of Citi FM, located behind the Adabraka Police Station.
COPE is a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative programme under the Citi Foundation in support of Ghanaians in need of support.
COPE is an initiative that seeks to provide full scholarships to brilliant but deprived students to further their education.
Between 2014 and 2016, the project expended an average of about GHc 5,000 per academic year on one beneficiary.
