A marine police officer stationed at the Osagyefo Power Barge at Effasu near Half Assini in the Western Region has committed suicide by shooting himself dead.

The deceased officer has been identified as Sergeant Fuseini Mohammed and said to be under investigation over a theft incident on the Barge weeks ago.

According to the police, the deceased took his life on Sunday morning after asking another officer he was on duty with to get him a razor blade.

“G/Sgt. Fuseini Mohammed of Marine Police, Anyinase who was on duty at the Osagyefo Barge, Effasu near Half Assini shot himself dead with an AK-47 assault rifle after he had sent Corporal Iddrisu Kafando Muntari who he was on duty with to buy a shaving blade,” a police wireless communication said.

A written note that was retrieved at the scene of the crime said: “I cannot take this disgrace, something I don’t know.”

The note also had a phone number of the deceased’s wife and two other phone numbers.

The police said, crime scene management team from Sekondi and a team from Half Assini and the marine police from Takoradi visited the scene and found the body of the deceased lying in a supine position in a pool of blood dead with the rifle beside his legs.

“The body, after photographs and inspection by the crime scene experts was removed to be deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra for preservation and autopsy.”

Four cops interdicted for stealing items from Osagyefo Power Barge

Four policemen were earlier this month interdicted for allegedly stealing high tension cables, fridges and other valuables items from the 125 megawatts (MW) Osagyefo Power Barge last February.

The Western Regional Police Command had begun full investigation into the matter in which Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Peter Zator and L/Cpl Ibrahim Mohammed, on interdiction, were arrested for stealing pylon cables, fridges and other valuables on the power barge.

They mentioned the names of two other colleagues’ accomplices in the theft case.
