The Ministry of Roads and Highways has disclosed that a sub-cabinet committee has been set up to among other things address the financial woes of unpaid contractors.
This comes after the angry road contractors, for the second time in one week besieged the Ministry to demand payment for work done since 2016.
The contractors also accused the roads ministry of paying some of their colleagues along political lines.
But PRO for the Roads and Highways Ministry, Winnifred Nafisa Mahama said the claims are false.
“The committee was set up at the just ended cabinet meeting in Senchi where road sector issues were paramount in the discussions…Three men including the Minister of Roads and Highways, the Minister Finance are supposed to look into, not only the road contractors grievances but the wider infrastructural sector issues.”
Scores of road contractors on Wednesday besieged the Ministry of Roads and Highways to demand payment for work done.
The contractors said they had not been paid since 2016.
The contractors after going to the Ministry last week to demand a meeting with the Minister, Kwesi Amoako-Atta, were instructed to return this week due to the absence of the sector minister.
Clad in red with armbands, the leaders of the protesting contractors who picketed at the Ministry were invited into a meeting with the minister.
