The global Alumni for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology KNUST has donated a total amount of GHS50,000 to the Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research and the KNUST hospital to aid in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to journalists, the president of the group, Dr Kwaku to “As an alumni, and taking inspiration from his Excellency the President of the Republic, we decided to set up what we call the Alumni COVID-Fund. And I’m here . to present an initial amount of 50,000 Ghana cedis to be given to KCCR and TECH Hospital to continue with the good work they are doing for mother Ghana and let them know that the Alumni is fully behind them and the University. I’ll call on all other technocrats who have not contributed to join this campaign by contributing. We hope that we’ll be able to do more donation to the University and together we can fight this disease”.

The Board Chairman for the KNUST, Nana Effah Appenteng also commended the group for taking the initiative to contribute to the University.

He added that there is the need to mobilize enough funds to support the University in the fight against COVID-19.

Nana Effah Appenteng also appealed to individuals and organizations to continue to support the two institutions.

Meanwhile, the Director for KCCR, Professor Odame Philips says there is the need for authorities to intensify education on safety protocols aimed at containing the spread of COVID-19 in Ghana.

He again added that there is a need to sensitize the populace on adhering to the safety protocols.

“We need to continue educating. In the control strategy of any infectious disease, education takes a huge cornerstone. Education should continue, it should not end because one of the functions of the brain is to forget so the more we educate, the better we are able to remember what we are supposed to do and so I think it needs to keep going on until the last person in our community conforms,” he explained.
