A non-governmental organization, World Vision is asking students in both basic and high schools to strictly adhere to laid down hygiene protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in their schools.
This follows the recording of COVID-19 cases in some schools following the partial resumption of academic activities.
Speaking to Citi News on sidelines of sanitation solutions challenge master encounter in Accra, WASH Technical Director of World Vision, Yaw Attah Arhin said proper hygienic conditions in schools must be prioritized to protect the students.
“Children have been affected, some children have died and that tells us that the disease is no respecter of ages and therefore we want to encourage the children to take good care of themselves wherever they find themselves. Wash your hands frequently, sanitize your hands and don’t go to high-risk areas. It’s a very dicey situation. We need to have enhanced hygiene in this period in various schools”.
Mr. Yaw Attah Arhin further shared more details about the sanitation solutions challenge master encounter.
“This project is about involving and encouraging the Ghanaian child to take an interest in sanitation issues in the country. Empower them to develop or co-create sanitation solutions that last and to help them improve the sanitation challenges in Ghana. The sanitation situation in Ghana is not the best and we think children can bring some ideas and thoughts.”
“So, first of all, we asked children from class four to form two to write an open letter to the president to tell him about the sanitation situation in and around their school or community and proposing solutions to the problems. Out of the hundreds of scripts, the top ten have been selected which will be further slashed to four and the winner will be selected at the final stage of the challenge”, he added.
