Head Pastor of the Calvary Charismatic Center (CCC), Ransford Obeng has urged Ghanaians to honour the late former President Jerry John Rawlings with peaceful elections in December.

He wants political parties to keep calm and play a lead role in ensuring violent free polls saying that will be the best tribute they can pay to the late statesman.

Pastor Obeng who is Chairperson of the Kumasi Ministers Conference expressed condolences to the family of the late former President and asked Ghanaians to ensure peaceful elections in his memory.

He explained that the death of the former President must be one that should unify all Ghanaians especially as the country heads to the polls.

He described the death of the former President as a trying moment for the bereaved family and prayed for God’s guidance and protection for them.

He said: “I also want to use this opportunity to appeal to all political parties that we are in a state of mourning and the respect we have for our hero who is dead, let us make sure that we go to the polling station, and then we will have a peaceful election we have ever had that will be an honour to our former President. Because that is what he stood for. He stood for accountability and probity and so don’t let this election be characterized by violence. I am appealing to everybody, lay down all your tools and let us in a peaceful atmosphere, because we are in a mourning atmosphere. Let us go in that mourning attitude and peacefully cast their ballot and elect whoever we want to elect”.

Pastor Obeng expressed concern over the decline in the adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols by some Ghanaians.

He indicated that the virus was not eradicated and Ghanaians must therefore heed to all the protocols to ensure the country does not experience a second wave.

The first President of the 4th Republic died on Thursday, November 12, 2020, after serving over 20 years as Head of State and Government of the country both as a military ruler and democratically elected President.

He died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital at the age of 73.

Ghanaians a currently observing a seven day national mourning for the late former President.
