The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, is in the Bono East Capital Techiman to visit families of victims of election-related violence in the Techiman South Constituency.

Mr. Mahama is being accompanied by the NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia; the National Women’s Organiser, Hannah Bissiw; National Chairman Ofosu Ampoffo;  the Techiman South Parliamentary Candidate, Christopher Beyere, among others.

He began his trip with a courtesy call on the Techimanhene.

Mr. Mahama is then expected to visit the families of victims from the election violence in Techiman.

He will also address supporters, and sympathisers of the party within the region on the shooting incident in Techiman, as well as speak on the NDC’s claim for the Techiman South and Sene West seats.

Amid complaints of a miscarriage of justice during the election, the Bono East NDC in a statement said “the Regional EC office and the Techiman South Constituency EC office will feel his [Mr. Mahama’s] presence and this visit will accord him the opportunity to interact with the leadership of the party, supporters, sympathizers and faithful of the party within the region.”

One person was killed following in the Techiman South Constituency after being struck by warning shots from security personnel.

One other person was in a critical condition while six others have sustained gunshot wounds.

The incident started after a misunderstanding ensued over the declaration of the election results.

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, was declared the winner in the polls sparking agitation from some NDC supporters.

The NDC maintains that it won the parliamentary polls in the area and has claimed that National Democratic National Security operatives are trying to forge constituency results sheet for Techiman South.
