The State has sued the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, and 10 other members of the minority caucus in Parliament over their march to the Electoral Commission’s head office in Accra on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.

The suit sighted by Citi News accused the 11 legislators of holding such an event without notifying the police.

It also said the NDC MPs’ action was an unlawful assembly.

The other legislators sued are; Asawase MP, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak; Ningo-Prampram MP, Sam George; Yapei Kusawgu MP, John Abdulai Jinapor; South Dayi MP, Rockson Dafeamekpor; Kumbungu MP, Ras Mubarak; Damongo MP, Adam Mutawakilu; Lower Manya Krobo MP, Ebenezer Terlabi; Pru East MP, Dr. Kwabena Donkor; Sagnarigu MP; Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini; Juaboso MP, Kwabena Minta Akando.

About the march to EC’s premises

The Minority caucus led by its leader Haruna Iddrisu on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, stormed the premises of the Commission to present a petition over the results of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary polls.

They are in particular challenging the results of the Techiman South Parliamentary polls.

The Caucus in the six-pager petition is asking the EC to collate the Techiman South Constituency Parliamentary and Presidential Elections Results from all the Two Hundred and Sixty-Six (266) Polling stations.

“We demand that you cause to be collated the Techiman South Constituency Parliamentary and Presidential Elections Results from all the Two Hundred and Sixty-Six (266) Polling stations in accordance with the law, with immediate effect,” it states.

The Minority is also demanding that “that pursuant to regulation 43 (2) of C.I. 127, the endorsed writ, gazette notification and notice to the Clerk of Parliament be amended accordingly to reflect the true state of affairs.”

However, the legislators were met with resistance from the police officers who applied some force to stop them from going to the premises of the EC.
