A collision between a Ford Transit vehicle and a Hyundai Universe Space Bus has led to the death of five persons, with several others sustaining various degrees of injury.

The accident occurred at Tefle-Glamanuonyikpo near Sogakope at about 3:55 am on Tuesday.

According to eyewitnesses, the crash occurred as a result of a wrongful overtaking by the Ford Transit vehicle which was travelling from Sogakope towards Accra.

Eyewitnesses say the Ford Transit in an attempt to veer off the road upon sensing danger, collided sideways with the Hyundai Universe Space Bus which was travelling from Kumasi to Aflao.

Four occupants of the Ford Transit; two females and two males, including the driver’s mate, died on the spot, while another male occupant was also pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Apart from a woman who was identified as a seamstress from Sogakope, all other four dead victims are yet to be identified but are believed to be travelling from Aflao or Keta to Accra.

Meanwhile, a joint team of personnel from the Police MTTU Department, fire service, and the Ambulance Service arrived at the scene to rescue, and convey injured survivors to the Sogakope District Hospital.

It took about an hour operation from the Sogakope Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to remove the entangled rear part of the Ford Transit which got separated from its frontal part, from the Hyundai bus.

Currently, it is not clear the total number of passengers involved in the accident.

The five dead victims have also been deposited at the Sogakope District Hospital morgue.
