In Covenant Ministries Fellowship, a non-governmental organization, has supported the Osamkrom Prison Camp at Gomoa Osamkrom in the Central Region.
The gesture forms part of efforts by the NGO to give back to society.
Items presented to the inmates included assorted drinks, bags of water, clothing, and some bibles.
The group also shared the word of God with the inmates as well as tips to stay safe during this COVID-19 period.
Speaking to Citi News after presenting the items to the camp, the Country Coordinator for the group Seth Wemegah Williams indicated that more of such donations will follow suit to complement the government’s efforts in taking care of the inmates.
“We will continue to support the Osamkrom Prison Camp as part of giving back to society and also minister the word of God to them anytime we have the opportunity. You cannot minister the word of God to a hungry man, the reason for our gesture before ministering the word of God to them,” the Country Coordinator said.
The group has also promised to construct a mechanized borehole to support the prison camp.
According to the Country Coordinator, he has been told that, the camp has been struggling with access to potable water adding that providing them with a borehole will go a long way to reduce their plights.
A health screening exercise was also organized to support the prison officers as well as other staff of the camp.
In Covenant Ministries Fellowship had earlier on donated some medical supplies including a stethoscope, weighing scale, Hepatitis B testing kit, and some gloves to the health centre in Winneba.
Some members of the group who were part of the trip were touched by the plight of the inmates and called on the government for better policies to better reform inmates.
“I was really moved when I entered the prison camp because of their condition and I now have a new perception of life. I believe the prison is a reformation centre and I think it is time for them to get support in education and other training so by the time they come out, they will be better placed to face the future,” Hervinian Dzreke said.
Deputy Superintendent of Prisons for Osamkrom Prison Camp, Richmond Baffour who received the items on behalf of the prison camp was grateful for the gesture and called for more collaboration between the fellowship and the camp.
“We are happy to receive these items from you and hope for more collaboration between your outfit and the camp,” DSP Richmond Baffour said.
