Juliet Asante writes: The country of Ghana and who needs fixing

May 11, 2021
ShareShareShareShare

Following the agitations by most Ghanaians regarding hard economic conditions in Ghana, filmmaker Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante has asked Ghanaians to take advantage of the #FixTheCountry campaign to make things work better for citizens.

In a Facebook post, she admitted that there are so many things that need to be fixed in the country, adding that “important also to note is that everyone needs to fix what is in their power to fix!”

Juliet also wrote that it is about time the people of Ghana took advantage of this recent campaign to “have a conversation and look inwards… an opportunity to be accountable to the people… an opportunity to understand what accountability means… both for the governed and the governor…”

Juliet is one of the many showbiz personalities who have added their voices to the subject since it gained currency about a week ago.

Read her post below:

The parable of the talent… to my mind…

THE COUNTRY GHANA AND WHO NEEDS FIXING!

Someone will only ask you to fix something when they have the confidence in you to fix it… otherwise, there are countless other options available to people to take…

And let’s face it, there are many things to fix… in our dear country Ghana 🇬🇭!

Important also to note is that everyone needs to fix what is in their power to fix!

This is an important and revolutionary time we are living! Even more so as those who actually own the land ‘the young people’ take enough interest in what is around them, governance, the brand Ghana, the future of Ghana, and how we get there…

This implies the recognition that Ghana is all we have and the youth is no longer interested in simply jumping ship!

For, after all, the so-called politician don’t fall from space, they come out of Ghana, born of, born from, born in, and many times, raised in…

When I do my illegal connection, it is not a politician…

When I pour plastic into the gutter, it is not the politician…

When I poop in plastic and throw… it is not the politician…

When I demand payment to do work I am paid to do, it is not a politician…

When I steal from, fail to do the work and collapse my employer, it is not the politician…

When I spit and pee on the sidewalk, it is not the politician…

When I choose to enable the foreigner and sabotage my country person, it is not a politician…

When I steal medicine from the cabinet of the hospital, it is not the politician…

When I overcharge, it is not the politician…

When I cheat and betray those who love me, it is not the politician…

But then it is the politician who amplifies me because the politician is me… the politician came from me…

BUT I DON’T LIKE THE REFLECTION OF ME THAT I AM SEEING

This is why it is important that we take a step back and see this campaign as an opportunity!

An opportunity to have a conversation and look inwards… an opportunity to be accountable to the people… an opportunity to understand what accountability means… both for the governed and the governor …

For Ghana is a beautiful country, with resources, potential, sunlight, land, healthy and vibrant people, but most importantly, young and strong people…and we don’t deserve to be here… that’s the honest truth!

But no one person got us here… no one political party got us here…

WE GOT US HERE!

It will be a shame if we make this a short, useless, shifting the blame, shallow outcry…

LET’S FIX IT, FOR NO ONE WILL FIX WHAT THE GOOD LORD GIVE US TO FIX, BUT US!

This happens once in every 100 years…

I will work to fix my home more, I will work to fix my person more, I will work to fix my environment more… I commit to work tirelessly to deliver on my work…

What is your personal commitment?
