The Chief of New Koforidua together with a US-based philanthropist Richard Finn has cut sod for the construction of a modern community centre for the good people of New Koforidua in the Ashanti Region.
The project which happens to be a first of its kind in the community is expected to spearhead an agenda to bring development to the people in the area of health, education and improve the livelihood of the people.
The community center will comprise an ICT laboratory, library and open space to host events and community engagement when completed.
At a short sod-cutting ceremony which was preceded by the clearing of the site by excavators residents of the community expressed their profound gladness about the project.
Richard Flynn who spoke to Citi News after the sod cutting indicated that he and his family are poised to develop the community with the help of his acquaintances in the United States of America.
“We are super proud to have started a project here in New Koforidua and then continue our growth. l am determined to work with the government and the chiefs to bring my skill set and also my connections from the US to really see to develop Ghana, to bring jobs in the area and also build developmental projects such as this”.
“The community centre project is a modernized complex structure which will serve many purposes to the people of New Koforidua. We are going to put up a full community centre. It is going to have obviously the stands, it will be a concrete platform with three-sided and then the other side will have restrooms, there will be dressing rooms and obviously the offices, so it is going to be really a nice good size project and a great place for the community to meet the other and come together”.
On his part, the Chief of New Koforidua, Nana Yaw Sarpong Kumankuma (I) who expressed his gratitude towards the paradigm shift and era of development under his reign
“I want to say a big thank you to philanthropist Mr. Richard Flynn and his family and want to use this opportunity to call on the community to offer him the needed support in his effort to develop our community, it has always been my dream to construct a befitting community centre for my people because as it stands now we don’t have a place for engagement and community meetings so when the opportunity came I totally gave in into the project.”
“Development in the community has not been the best because the community has been deprived of many social amenities such as police station, community centre, palace and public place of convenience, so I want to call on residents out of the country to come back home to assist us.”
