We’ll vote for Asenso-Boakye despite Ken Agyapong’s threats – NPP Bantama constituency chairman

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bantama constituency chairman, Fiifi Mensah, has declared delegates’ resolve to vote massively for the incumbent MP, Francis Asenso-Boakye, despite the threats issued against him by the MP for Assin Central, Ken Agyapong.

Ken Agyapong, addressing Bantama delegates in Kumasi, accused Asenso-Boakye of engaging in corruption, urging delegates to vote him out in the party’s upcoming primaries.

He claimed that Mr. Asenso-Boakye, who is also the Minister of Works and Housing, engaged in corrupt activities during his tenure at the Presidency and should not be re-elected.

In an interview on Eyewitness News, on Citi FM, on January 12, 2024, the NPP Bantama constituency chairman described the comments by Ken Agyapong as ‘unfortunate,’ charging him to back his allegations with evidence.

“It’s unfortunate hearing the Honorable Member of Parliament [Ken Agyapong] make these kinds of damning accusations. We expect better from such a top hierarchy of the party. This is a contest in the constituency, and your brother is contesting. When you tell delegates that, you are warning them that if they vote for the incumbent, he’s going to give out damning revelations. Why don’t you give us the revelations?

He emphasized, “The delegates already know what you have said; you have said that way back. It came out to be just a matter of an allegation. And there was no proof you could attach to it. Asenso-Boakye was cleared by the Commissioner of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ). These are some things you hear and wonder about the intention of some of the bigwigs who control the party.”

He said Asenso-Boakye has delivered beyond reasonable doubt and that Mr. Agyapong’s brother Ralph Kwame Agyapong, who is also vying for the Bantama seat in the upcoming primaries, doesn’t have a chance.

“Your brother wants to come in, and you want to threaten delegates with this? Funny enough, the delegates are excited, and they want to hear what the accusations are. So they’re all going to vote for Asenso-Boakye. Then you come and tell them what the accusations are. Ralph is my very good friend; I have been with him for a while, and he has done virtually nothing in the constituency. His brother wants to bastardize Asenso-Boakye to look like the devil. The guy [Asenso-Boakye] has delivered beyond a reasonable doubt. Asenso-Boakye comes way ahead of Ralph. I endorse Asenso-Boakye fully; I believe he’s the best candidate.”

Mr. Mensah charged the Assin North to table his brother’s vision for the constituency.

“Don’t come and bastardize him; talk about what your brother is bringing on board. You are creating unnecessary news for the constituency,” he pointed out.
