Assemblies of God Ghana, in partnership with Convoy of Hope, a US-based NGO, has extended a helping hand to flood victims in North Tongu, in the Volta region, by donating relief items valued at $20,000.
These donations aim to provide assistance to individuals affected by the spillage of excess water from the Akosombo and Kpong hydropower dams, easing their suffering during this challenging time.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Reverend Dr. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana, expressed gratitude to Convoy of Hope USA for bringing hope to the flood victims.
He emphasized the unpredictable nature of the torrential rains due to climate change, highlighting the urgent need for authorities and NGOs to step up efforts to support those displaced, particularly those living in temporary shelters.
“With a thankful heart, we bless Convoy of Hope USA for igniting hope in the flood victims. Through this generosity, due to climate change, the script has totally changed as the rains pour in torrents without notice. We therefore urge the authorities and NGOs to act with urgent promptitude to alleviate the plight of the flood victims, especially those living in tents.
“Furthermore, Assemblies of God Ghana reiterates its call for a lasting solution to the perennial flooding in the cities and other parts of the country and education on the consequences of environmental indiscipline must also be intensified on all forms.”
