Fund National Hydrological Authority to complete drainage projects – Ansah Opoku to govt

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku has lamented the lack of adequate funding for the newly established National Hydrological Authority.

The Authority which was established to enhance flood control has attributed its failure to complete most drainage projects to the non-release of budgetary allocations by the Finance ministry.

During a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Sitting, the Mpraeso MP who also serves on the works and housing committee urged the government to support the Hydro Authority to deliver on its mandate

In an interview with Channel One News, Mr Opoku also emphasised the importance of funding for the Authority, saying, “Last year we established the hydro authority, and it looks like it still remains the same, no funding and the zeal at which we went through this bill for it to be made an authority, seems to be eroding, which is a bit of a difficulty.”

“I mean, I’ve stayed in asylum down, and I know the effect of hydro and these rains and all of that and if we have established this institution and the ministry is failing to provide adequate funding to the authority, then it’s problematic. So please, maybe we use this medium to appeal to the government, and especially to the Minister for Finance, to release funds to the hydro authority and also to the ministry.”
