Awubia Festival: Awutu Senya West MP allegedly stages walk out as Bawumia delivers speech

Drama unfolded when, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, allegedly walked out of the scene when Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was invited to deliver his speech as the guest of honour at the 2024 Awubia Festival in Awutu.

The festival, which celebrates the cultural heritage of the Awutu people, had Dr. Bawumia, the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as the guest speaker.

Upon arrival, Dr Bawumia showed courtesy by greeting Tetteh-Agbotui and her entourage, even presenting her with a citation in recognition of her role as MP for the area.

However, despite this gesture, the MP and her entourage allegedly left the premises, creating a scene when Dr Bawumia was called upon to deliver his speech to the chiefs, dignitaries, and other attendees.

The MP’s sudden departure has been described as disrespecting the Vice President and the traditional leaders of the Awutu Traditional Area, sparking public uproar and discussions about political decorum and the significance of respecting traditional institutions.

Notable figures present with Dr Bawumia included Mr Eugene Arhin, NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya West and Director of Communications at the Presidency, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, Minister for Transport; Hawa Koomson, MP for Awutu Senya East and Minister for Fisheries, and Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Minister for Chieftaincy Affairs.

The festival continued with Dr. Bawumia’s address, but the walkout remains a focal point of conversation among local and national observers.
