EC suspends re-collation of four Parliamentary results at Police Training School

The Electoral Commission (EC) has temporarily halted the re-collation of parliamentary results for constituencies at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra, following mounting disagreements over the exercise.

The collation, which began earlier this week to address discrepancies in the results from several constituencies, was suspended for further consultations with the political parties involved.

On December 12, 2024, the EC requested the Police to provide maximum security at the venue to ensure the safety of all personnel and facilitate a smooth collation process.

However, tensions between political parties, particularly the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), escalated, leading to significant disputes that disrupted the exercise.

The disagreements centred around concerns raised by both parties regarding the accuracy of the electoral results, with the NDC accusing the EC of discrepancies in the pink sheets from certain constituencies.

The NPP also expressed frustration over the handling of the process and the time taken to resolve these issues.

As a result of the impasse, the EC in a statement issued on Friday decided to halt the re-collation temporarily, stating that further engagements with all political parties were necessary to ensure transparency and fairness.

The process was meant to resolve issues in constituencies such as Suhum, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Fanteakwa North, and Akwatia in the Eastern Region, which had been plagued by disputes over the initial results.
