FLSmidth inaugurates state-of-the-art service centre in Ghana

Global mining solutions provider FLSmidth has launched a cutting-edge service centre in Ghana, aimed at boosting productivity in the country’s mining sector and the broader West African region.

The facility, which was inaugurated on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, will provide comprehensive training, advanced technologies, and a wide range of services to help mining companies optimise their operations.

It will also serve as a key distribution hub for equipment and spare parts, supporting business growth and revenue generation in the region.

According to FLSmidth Group CEO Mikko Keto, Ghana’s strong mining expertise and stable business environment made it an ideal location for the company’s expansion.

“In the past, we’ve been too focused on South Africa. Now, we aim to be more present in Ghana to better support our customers. Ghana is a stable, well-run country with significant mining competence, making it an ideal location for this investment,” Keto said.

The new service centre will enable faster equipment deliveries and efficient refurbishment services, significantly reducing lead times for mining companies.

“This facility will serve as a stocking location for production spare parts, ensuring quicker deliveries across Ghana and West Africa. Additionally, we can fully refurbish equipment here, bringing it back to the centre for maintenance before returning it to site,” Keto added.

The initiative has been praised by key stakeholders, including the Danish Ambassador to Ghana, Tom Nørring, who highlighted its potential to drive economic growth, create jobs, and strengthen the private sector.

“FLSmidth’s investment in Ghana sets a strong example for balanced trade and investment. It fosters collaboration, creates local jobs, upscales the workforce, and strengthens Ghana’s private sector while remaining economically viable for international investors,” Nørring stated.

Sulemanu Koney, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, also commended the project, noting its alignment with the chamber’s vision of positioning Ghana as a hub for mine support services.

“This investment by FLSmidth supports our goal of making Ghana a central hub for mining services. It presents a valuable opportunity to increase value retention within the country,” Koney said.

Koney emphasized the importance of local economic circulation, adding, “When mining sector expenditures lead to value creation and retention through local training, spending, and reinvestment, we truly build a stronger economy for our nation.”
