Nana Akomea welcomes Ken Agyapong’s withdrawal from ‘Thank You Tour’

Former Chief Executive of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has welcomed the decision by former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, to withdraw from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ongoing “Thank You Tour.”

Kennedy Agyapong officially announced his withdrawal on Wednesday, April 30, citing security concerns for his supporters. The decision follows a violent incident involving the stabbing of a student from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), reportedly affiliated with Unity Hall.

Speaking in an interview with Nhyira FM, Nana Akomea said the tour, originally intended to promote unity within the party, had become counterproductive.

He described it as having evolved into an “unnecessary competition” and praised Agyapong’s withdrawal as a sensible move under the circumstances.

“The current ‘Thank You Tour’ has turned into an unnecessary competition, and it is good for Kennedy Agyapong to withdraw,” he said.

Akomea expressed concern over growing divisions within the party’s leadership and urged leaders to present a united front to guide supporters, especially in the aftermath of the 2024 general elections.

“Leaders in the party must remain united and be a symbol of unity for the party supporters to follow. This thank you tour is not new, it has been there since 1992.

“If you look at the NPP, we are really sad about the margin of loss in the 2024 elections. This should guide the way we do things if we want to win the 2028 elections,” he stated.
