The Migrant Labour General Workers Union International (MLGWUI), through its Education-Training-Legal-Counselling Bureau, the Finnish-French Education Resource Centre (MLGWUI-FFERC), has commended the Ghana Immigration Service for the peaceful arrest and repatriation of undocumented migrants from makeshift camps and roadside locations across the country.
In a statement released on Friday, May 16, MLGWUI-FFERC praised the operation as a necessary and non-violent exercise to restore public order and ensure adherence to national immigration laws.
The union urged undocumented migrants, along with their embassies, missions, consulates, and foreign communities in Ghana, to cooperate fully with authorities during the ongoing repatriation process. It emphasised that the exercise is in the interest of public safety and must not be viewed as hostile.
MLGWUI-FFERC also appealed to Ghanaians and employers who may owe wages or own personal belongings or valuable items of the deported migrants to promptly deliver them to the designated deportation centres.
Additionally, the union extended well-wishes to all affected migrants, hoping for a fair, safe, and orderly return to their countries of origin.
