Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, has inaugurated a seven-member board for Ghana Heavy Equipment Limited (GHEL), with a call to capitalise on the country’s growing automotive and machinery industry.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, the Minister expressed confidence in the board’s capacity to attract strategic partnerships and enhance local assembly operations.

Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare also tasked the members with turning around the company’s fortunes by improving operational efficiency, generating dividends, and driving investment into the sector.

“Ghana Heavy Equipment Limited is a very viable company that has the potential of turning things around. It used to have some contracts that they have lost over the years. I want to see an aggressive drive to have it back. I am happy to say we have already stated the discussion and I am waiting for the board to come to deepen it and then bring it to a closure.

“Whatever contract you enter into, I am not looking for exclusivity. I am looking for Ghana Heavy Equipment Limited dealing with more companies for efficiency so that you can even hire more people. The agenda of the president is to make sure that we create jobs for our teaming youth. The auto industry, the machinery industry is receiving a great boom so I hope that you will be able to bring more companies to bear to assembly the things that they do,” the minister stated.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Ghana Heavy Equipment Limited board, Dr. Daniel Oblle-Quaye in his remark has pledged to work with the CEO in strategically repositioning the company for growth.

“To the CEO, I want to assure him of our full support to make sure that we revamp the Ghana Heavy Equipment Limited and make sure when that name is mentioned, it rings bells in our country. We want to also carry on with the project of making sure that the president’s vision is truly achieved by making sure employment opportunities are created for the youth,” he said.

Other members of the Board include CEO of Ghana Heavy Equipment Limited Awal Mutalib, Ing. Emmanuel Oman Kabu, Ahmed Issah, Nana Kwasi Ofori Ababbio, Gbene Iddrisu John Dimah and Seidu Yonye.
