Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben South, Ike Apaw Gyasi, has expressed strong confidence in the leadership qualities of Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as a well-nurtured leader capable of steering both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Ghana to greater heights.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Monday, June 23, ahead of a high-level engagement with the immediate past MMDCES of the NPP government with Dr. Bawumia, he appealed to Ghanaians to exercise patience and look beyond partisanship in evaluating policies and national leadership.
“I will plead with Ghanaians to be patient, because for me, if the economy is good, it is good for everybody, and we ought not to be too partisan. We need to look at the bigger picture. Ghana is bigger than everybody,” he stated.
He urged citizens to support policies that benefit the nation, regardless of which political party proposes them. “If a policy is good for a country, irrespective of whoever has put that policy in place, we need to support that. Ghana first, as far as I am concerned,” he emphasised.
Apaw Gyasi also pointed out that Ghana is on the brink of a needed transformation and believes Dr. Bawumia is the right leader to drive that agenda, noting that leadership development takes time, urging the nation to allow Dr. Bawumia’s leadership to mature and be tested at the highest level.
“I am waiting for this country to go through the transformational process that we have always talked about, and in my view, I think that we have in Dr. Bawumia a leader who has shown a proven track record.
“When we nurture leadership, we must always give it time to blossom. I see Dr. Bawumia as somebody who has been nurtured by this country, and in my view, I think that he will be a fine president in this country,” he added.
The endorsement from Ike Apaw Gyasi comes on the back of the New Patriotic Party’s preparation for its next presidential primaries, officially scheduled for January 31, 2026.
This was confirmed by NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, following the National Council’s adoption of a proposal from the party’s constitution review committee.
Koduah clarified that the date was approved by the National Council and would not be subject to a broader delegates’ conference vote.
