World Vision Ghana and its microfinance affiliate, VisionFund Ghana, have strongly disassociated themselves from a fraudulent loan operation falsely using the name “World Vision Foundation Loan” to deceive unsuspecting Ghanaians.
In a press release issued on Friday June 27, the two organisations clarified that World Vision Ghana does not offer loans of any kind, and VisionFund Ghana — the only official financial institution affiliated with World Vision in Ghana — does not charge any upfront fees for its services.
The scam, which has been promoted via satellite TV, social media, and other platforms, has misled members of the public into transferring money under false pretenses, believing they were engaging with legitimate World Vision-related services.
“Those soliciting funds have falsely claimed affiliation with World Vision,” the statement read. “We urge the public to verify all loan offers through official VisionFund Ghana platforms, and never send money in advance for loans.”
In response to the growing threat, the organisations have launched a nationwide awareness campaign titled “Our Identity; Our Integrity” aimed at educating the public, preventing further fraud, and reinforcing their commitment to transparency and ethical service.
They are also urging victims and concerned citizens to report suspicious activity to law enforcement, as well as to World Vision Ghana and VisionFund Ghana. The matter has been formally referred to the police, and television stations that have aired the fraudulent adverts are being served with notices to stop further broadcast.
“We are calling on the media to assist in protecting the public by ceasing the dissemination of these misleading advertisements,” the release added.
