Day Two of the Greater Accra Regional Qualifiers in the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) delivered another electrifying showdown, with Accra High School staging a dramatic comeback to secure a spot at the National Championship.
Facing off against Tema Secondary School and Ada Senior High School—two formidable opponents—Accra High had a rocky start. Tema Secondary dominated the first round, confidently leading with a string of correct responses. Ada SHS followed with 19 points, leaving Accra High trailing with 16.
But the competition’s momentum shifted in the second round. Accra High surged back into contention with renewed energy and precision, amassing 33 points to overtake Tema Secondary, who closed the round just one point behind. Ada SHS, meanwhile, struggled to keep pace and dropped further behind.
The third round, focused on true-or-false questions, saw Tema Secondary regain control of the game. Their near-flawless answers pushed them ahead once again with 44 points. Accra High remained close behind with 41, and Ada SHS improved slightly to 31.
Everything came down to the final round—the riddle segment, often the decider in tightly contested matches. Accra High rose to the occasion spectacularly, solving all four riddles correctly. The rare clean sweep not only dazzled the audience but sealed their win with 53 points.
Tema Secondary couldn’t recover in the riddle round and held their earlier tally of 44 points, placing second. Ada SHS concluded the contest with 31 points.
While only Accra High won the contest, Tema Secondary’s strong performance earned them a deserved place in the national stage through the highest-scoring runners-up bracket.
The contest highlighted the intense competition and intellectual agility that have become synonymous with the NSMQ—proving once again that no lead is ever safe, and brilliance can shine brightest under pressure.
