The Ghana Weightlifting Association (GWA) has announced the media launch of the 2025 African Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championship, positioning the country as the proud host of one of the continent’s premier youth sporting events.
Speaking at the launch on July 8, President of the GWA, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, said the championship presents a valuable opportunity to celebrate youth achievement and promote unity across Africa through the power of sport.
“This championship will bring together the continent’s most talented young and junior weightlifters to compete, inspire, and showcase the future of African weightlifting,” Mr. Shaib stated.
The event is expected to attract elite youth and junior athletes, coaches, and officials from across Africa, with Ghana set to stage a thrilling showcase of strength, determination, and sporting excellence.
Organizers indicated that additional information — including dates, venues, and participating countries — will be released in the coming weeks.
The GWA is appealing to the public, media, and private sector to support the championship as preparations gather momentum.
“This is more than a competition; it’s about raising the profile of youth sports and empowering the next generation of African athletes,” Mr. Shaib emphasized.
The 2025 African Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championship is anticipated to be a highlight of Ghana’s sporting calendar and a key step forward in nurturing the country’s emerging sports talent.
