Former Chief Executive Officer of Dalex Finance, Kenneth Kwamina Thompson, has been appointed Chairman of the newly constituted Board of Directors for the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), marking a strategic step toward reinforcing the bank’s role in Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda.

His appointment was announced during the formal inauguration of the new board by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who also revealed plans for a significant recapitalization of ADB in 2026.

The capital injection is expected to enhance the bank’s financial capacity to support primary producers, agribusinesses, and critical segments of the agricultural value chain.

“No country develops without sustained agricultural development. I have therefore tasked the new board to remain focused and guided by their primary mandate—serving Ghana’s agricultural sector. I want to assure the board and management that I will capitalize ADB next year,” Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson wrote on Facebook.

The nine-member board, inaugurated by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, also includes Edward Ato Sarpong as Managing Director, alongside Andrew Dari Chiwitey, Siisi Essuman-Ocran, Dr. E. Prince Arhin, Misbahu Mahama Adams, Wing Commander Samuel J.A. Allotey, Courage Akanwunge Asabagna, and Mr. Abdul Nasir M. Saani.

The board is expected to provide strategic direction as the bank aligns itself with national priorities, particularly under the government’s renewed focus on import substitution and agro-industrialization.

ADB, which was established with a specialized mandate to finance agriculture, has faced criticisms in recent years to deepen its focus on the sector amid food security concerns.
