Kufuor hasn’t been excluded from NPP activities – Nana Akomea

Vice Chairman of the 2024 Bawumia Campaign Team, Nana Akomea, has cast doubt on claims that former President John Agyekum Kufuor has been sidelined from key decision-making processes within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

His comments follow recent remarks by former President Kufuor, who expressed disappointment over what he described as neglect and exclusion by the party he once led to two electoral victories.

Speaking during a conversation with Abetifi MP and flagbearer hopeful Bryan Acheampong, the former president shared his growing sense of marginalisation within the NPP.

Responding to the concerns in an interview with Joy FM on Thursday, July 17, Nana Akomea stated, “I do not think it is possible that former President Kufuor would not be invited to meetings of these organs.”

He explained that the former president remains a member of all national decision-making bodies of the party, including the Steering Committee, which is the party’s main operational organ.

He further clarified that Mr Kufuor has designated two individuals in his office to receive all official invitations on his behalf, making it unlikely that he would be left out of important gatherings.

“So, I do not think that the complaint I have heard former President Kufuor make has to do with his invitations to the meetings,” Mr. Akomea emphasised.

He acknowledged, however, that Kufuor was absent from recent meetings of both the National Executive Committee and the National Council. At a previous meeting where Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye presented a key report, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia were in attendance, but Kufuor was again absent.

Nana Akomea’s comments add a new layer to the ongoing public discourse surrounding the internal dynamics of the NPP as the party heads into the 2028 general elections.
